New in 2022

The Santa Fe's current design dates back to the 2019 model year. In 2020 it got a few tech features, and in 2021 it got a big update with a new set of engines, a redesigned exterior, and new infotainment software. In 2022, the Santa Fe has a new trim to choose from, the XRT. Other than that, it is the same as the 2021 edition.

There are two drivetrains that you can choose from for the Santa Fe. The base engine is a V4 that is rated for 191 horsepower. On higher trims, you get an upgrade engine, which is a turbo V4 rated for 281 horsepower. That's a very considerable increase in power, and it lets the Santa Fe feel much quicker on hills or when negotiating passing on the highway. Both engines come with an automatic transmission that has eight speeds. In terms of fuel efficiency, the base engine gets 28 miles per gallon on the highway and 25 on city roads. These are outstanding numbers for an SUV of this size. If you go with the upgraded engine, the highway MPG is the same and the city MPG drops to 22, which are still very strong. You lose one or two MPG if you also add on all-wheel drive.

There are five trims for the Santa Fe. The base trim is called the SE. The SE uses the base engine, along with an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity, quad USB ports, and Bluetooth. It also has a generous set of safety features, including adaptive cruise control, which is usually an advanced feature restricted to the top trims. It's one of the best safety suites in the class. The second trim is the SEL. The SEL also has the base engine. It adds wireless charging pads, heating for the front seats, and some new packages for more tech and comfort features. The XRT trim is new in 2022, and it has the Convenience package from the SEL along with roof rails and some new black exterior elements. The Limited trim is the first one to have the upgraded engine. It has both of the packages from the lower trims as standard features, plus heating for the rear seats, ventilation for the front seats, a new parking assist feature with surround cameras, and more. The top Calligraphy trim adds leather upholstery and head-up display, plus larger wheels.
